I didn’t set out intentionally to collect fun facts about penguins, but things just happened:
There is little doubt that the word “penguin” is derived from the Portuguese “pinguim”, originally coined by fishermen to name another flightless bird, now known as the northern great auk.
Penguins sometimes slide along on their body instead of walking - we call this tobogganing.
Have you heard of pebbling, in which penguins gift pebbles to potential partners?

We just visited Bird Paradise last week. Suffice it to say that my boy had a ball of a time. Actually, me too!
