A few days ago, I took a street photo with my phone that opened my mind to a whole new world of possibilities. It helped me connect the dots in a way that was crucial for street photography.
I'll start with my favorite photo while I tell you more...
This photo is so surreal it almost looks like a painting:
A farmer in the city.
Venezuela is a country unlike any other in the world, a bit behind the times. That's why it's not very common to see people walking around with cameras.
So, when I go out with my camera to take street photos, I draw a lot of attention and feel stressed and scared that someone might steal my only tool of work, which is so necessary for my daily livelihood.
Like in to the old days.
Until one day, a scene worthy of being photographed presented itself to me. Since I didn't have my camera with me, I took out my phone and took a picture. To my surprise, nobody noticed my presence or looked at me strangely as usually happens when I have my camera.
So, I realized that I could use my phone to take some photos without taking so many risks and without altering the scene that was unfolding.
Faces in the traffic.
With this new perspective and trust, I continued taking photos with my phone whenever I had the chance, and I noticed something.
Although the image quality isn't as good as a professional camera, I feel that with my phone I can capture moments of higher quality because I feel more confident taking photos in moments and places that can be more sensitive.
Butcher in a municipal market.
It's very common to see these types of informal vendors all over the city, selling all sorts of things.
Colors of fruits and a fruit-based drink called Tizana.
Having my phone within reach, I can quickly take a photo of any beautiful scene I come across, like these houses with beautiful flowers.
took this photo because even though there weren't flowers, the light at that moment was very beautiful
I also found something unexpected: faces on the wall.
And another thing I often photograph are the old cars I find around the city. In a way, I've been "collecting" these photos...
In the end, I feel less exposed to dangerous situations when I take photos with my phone because many people feel less intimidated when they see someone taking photos with a phone, and I've managed to capture some very beautiful photos. It's been a win-win situation so far!
And for those who are wondering, I took all these photos with a Samsung S21 Ultra.
I hope you liked these photos as much as I did!

Great work! As an idea, just go to the Parque del Este and take some photos there, the place used to be amazing. Also, for me the street food in Venezuela is unique, maybe it worth taking some pics around.
Gracias!
