Definitely not centralised. The Lightning payments are part of the Podcasting 2.0 RSS spec which has defined new tags in the RSS format - one of which is the value block which lets any podcaster add a Lightning node pub key into their feed - https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/podcast-namespace/blob/main/value/value.md
Fountain simply reads the value block in each RSS feed and sends the funds to the right node.
For podcasters who aren't running their own node Fountain helps by offering a podcaster wallet that can receive funds - but this is just 1 option.
The centralization is then on PodcastIndex. Because realistically all of these apps read the values from this one centralized index, right?

PodcastIndex is open and their database of feeds and episodes is downloadable from their website - https://podcastindex.org

sure, but if they want to unlist a podcast that they don’t like, it’s as simple as that. it would no longer show up on any of the user apps.

That's true but the fact that the index is open makes it much easier to create / switch to an alternative compared to Apple / Spotify.

The fact that all of the listener apps read the data from this one place does not make it easier to switch to an alternative. It's really disappointing to see this kind of setup tbh.
