This photo commemorates the first time my dad and I went overseas, but that’s not the reason why I have been keeping it ten years on my phone.
Rather, it transports me back to the time when I was dying to try out the reportedly succulent milk crabs at Restoran Tong Sheng in Malacca. Since I hail from Singapore, where our signature chilli crabs have made it to the top 50 most delicious foods, it was exciting for me to savour how heavenly crabs could taste in another way. I also wisely paired the milk crabs with its to-die-for cheesy prawn bee hoon.
This dinner packed such a culinary punch that I took my wife and my best friend to this restaurant several years later, unfazed at all by the long queue. “Good things are worth the wait,” I declared emphatically.
I’m not likely to visit Malacca anytime soon, but I want to have a meal there with my children someday.
