I've been banging on this drum to anyone who will listen for a while now 🤣. Peer review is absolutely broken. And it has been for a long time, as I've observed from the inside. Did y'all notice how some high profile papers from more than a decade ago (i.e., about SSRIs and Alzheimer's) were recently questioned and some big problems were found.

The last couple of years where scientists manufactured consensus on lockdowns and mandates (with "gentle encouragement" from politicians) shows how corrupt these institutions are.

the largest problem with peer review in most scientific journals is the fact that the reviewers do not get access to the raw data to verify analysis. reviewer can comment on the methods used for analysis and the methods use for study design but if the underlying study data is wrong then the published study is wrong regardless of what the peers think.

specific to medicine this is why most published studies are wrong
