Lots of popular apps work the same way. People post messages, tweets, threads, comments, replies, etc. to a server and other people read them from that server.
Even though these apps work the same, they don't play well together. I need a new account for every app and the app can censor my posts.
Nostr is an "internet bulletin board" protocol. You create an identity with keys (not email). Volunteers who run relays hold your posts so it's difficult to censor. The client you use to access Nostr changes how it appears. If you like Twitter's UI, use a client like Damus. If you prefer telegram, use Anigma.
Since all data lives in relays around the world, it's hard to find cool stuff on different relays since you'd have to instruct your client to use those relays.
FZF let's you search across relays and find cool channels and users to join/follow.
