Conformism and non-conformism are symmetrical expressions of a lack of originality.
–Nicolás Gómez Dávila
On a finite plane, paradoxical -- on an infinite plane, irrelevant. The magnitude of difference between the two -- the former in reverse engineering a clock telling time correctly twice a day to successive iterations of art movements and self-determining absolutists sliding down a chasm of contradictions, to the latter having the simple faith of a mustard seed and enduring life's trial by fire to attain the reward of eternal life.
Neither of these is hung on some elusive notion of originality.
What do you think?
If we have a name for a non-theoretical thing, future instantiations aren't original by definition.
