Howdy Stackers
Welcome to the 15th edition of The Daily Zap — A Daily Newspaper (Kind of 🙏). Here, you'll get links to all of the latest news and updates mostly from the last 24 hours, divided in Sections (much similar to pages on a newspaper).
Let's unfold!

~Bitcoin News of the Day

  • Coinbase—the U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange that serves as custodian for most Bitcoin ETFs, including BlackRock—must not actually be buying the Bitcoin requested by these funds, and instead merely issuing “IOUs,” or “paper”. Otherwise with billions flowing into Bitcoin, the price would have skyrocketed till now.

Global Trade & ~Econ

  • Unlike the Brics summit in Johannesburg in 2023, which was waved off by western observers as no real threat to the dollar, October’s summit in Kazan, Russia is set to be ground-breaking for two reasons.

~Politics_and_Law

  • DoorDash Inc., GrubHub Inc., and Uber Technologies Inc.‘s Uber Eats convinced a federal judge to hold unconstitutional a New York City law requiring food delivery apps to share customer data with restaurants.
The Customer Data Law violates the First Amendment because it regulates commercial speech and doesn’t concern unlawful or misleading activity, Judge Analisa Torres said in an order issued Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

~Stacker_Sports News

  • The 69-year-old Kramer, who played 13 of his 14 seasons in the NFL with the Vikings and made the Pro Bowl after leading the league in passer rating in 1986, posted on his X account Wednesday that he was formally diagnosed with the cognitive decline a little more than year ago at the Cleveland Clinic as part of a health and wellness program for former NFL players.

~Tech & ~Science

  • The new model, Llama 3.2, could allow developers to create more advanced AI applications, like augmented reality apps that provide real-time understanding of video, visual search engines that sort images based on content, or document analysis that summarizes long chunks of text for you.

~History with Mystery

  • *Dolly’s birth was a major scientific achievement, but the groundbreaking implications of cloned cells in medicine and agriculture were quickly overshadowed by the specter of human cloning. The cover of TIME asked: “Will There Ever Be Another You?

~Entertainment World

  • Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay attributed Travis Kelce's slow start to the season to his newfound fame and "jet-setting" lifestyle during an appearance on The Ryen Russillo Podcast, where he recorded four receptions for 30 yards. “Every show I watch, every pregame show, halftime show, postgame show, weekday show, every broadcast I watch for the last few weeks, it’s like, are we not allowed to say that he’s out of shape?” McShay bluntly asked.

No India news! I think you should also create a post with India's top news.
reply
I also think the same. We don't see a lot of news from India on Stacker News.
reply
Thanks 🙏 Good suggestion. Will give it a try in next few days, may be.

Meta is back with a major update: its first open-source model capable of processing both images and text.
Meta in open source world? Who's gonna buy it?
reply
I think Meta has already launched many projects that are open-sourced. However I can't say that how reliable Meta can be with any of Open Source projects.
reply
Does Meta list its projects on a platform like GitHub?
reply
I don't know. This is a dev question btw, out of my capacity.
reply
Kelce definitely hasn’t played as well this season but he is also getting old in football years so maybe he is just slowing down.
reply
Do you also think that Swift has anything to do with his lack of performance recently?
reply
Maybe. Hard to say. It's early in the season and Kelce is getting older and has played a lot of football.

I'm not surprised China is trying to do its own Petrodollar thing, but why would the other members agree to it?
reply
I don't see they would all agree. I can confirm India at least wouldn't agree and I don't even see Brazil and South Africa getting ready to it. It's just hype right now. India can also play a double game here.
reply
I could see Russia or Brazil accepting Yuan for oil, but a Petroyuan would mean that India is agreeing to pay for oil with Yuan. That seems far-fetched.
reply
Why do you think Brazil would agree? I think only Russia would support it. India is not gonna accept it and instead India would say we will launch a petrorupee! 😜
reply
Brazil buys stuff from China, so they have demand for Yuan. I don't mean that they would agree to requiring everyone else to pay with Yuan, just that they would allow the Chinese to do so.
reply
I agree on this. They buy a lot from China and it can be good for them, for Russia as well.
reply
No petroyuan is happening. Not now at least. There are many reasons for what the rest of members can disagree with China. Nobody would like to create another dollar like domination.
