I wonder if this is merely a difference of comfort in leadership roles. I had my own business for over 15 years so whether I liked it or not I had to be confident I was charting the right course and making the right decisions. I actually think that is a learned skill even if it isn't natively part of your personality. I certainly would not have gotten the same result 20 years ago.
