After watching this I am truly convinced that achieving net zero is a fools errand based on today’s technology.
I commend this guy for building his dream home in an attempt to make it net zero but the amount of inflation he added to his project is 20 to 30% more than it cost to build a standard home.
He went with geothermal for heating which is very costly plus the operation and maintenance on such a complex system can eat into his energy savings cost.
Using batteries for power is flawed in the long run. Batteries decay and will have to be replaced.
Even with all the design choices he made and the inflation to install green technologies he may barely reach net zero status.
Net zero in concept is a nice goal to strive for but right now the tech is still too expensive for the middle and lower class. The support for such technology just isn’t established yet.
I wish this guy luck.
Can you imagine the price of houses when and if this becomes a reality. Houses are already unaffordable in this country. The next generation will be never be afforded the same opportunities
