A couple of weeks ago I was having a nice walk with a person I'm getting to know and we got into a discussion about death and life and life-long todo lists. I have a bunch of todos that I want to pen cross before dying, some of them are top in the ranking, some others are silly stuff that I can even delete if I had to. Now, during that walk the discussion gravitated towards one particular question:
Would you be in peace with yourself if you were to die tomorrow, today, now? Would your life be somehow complete if you had to leave it all of a sudden?
Man, that's a punch I was not ready to defend myself from. I feel young, I think about plans, not destruction. But pay attention, the question is not really about self inflicted death...it's more of a car accident kind of thing.
I thought about this question a lot during these weeks, I don't have a final answer yet, although I reshaped my todolist as a consequence and it seems that no, I would not be ready for it.
If today a lorry were to crush my car as a tin can, I would probably use my last seconds to think about the entries of my todolist where the boxes are not crossed.
I now perceive this question as the fuel to get stuff done, I just hope the lorry - or whatever - will wait long enough.
Do you have an answer to this question? Do you have a life-long todolist where all the boxes are already crossed? Are you ready for an unespected sunset?
I feel I am ready for everything. I don't believe we die unless we choose to die. This story never ends. And it never began.

I guess I will never be ready, but the outcome is certain, we just need to keep that in mind.
reply
Why is it so certain?
reply
Yep, certainty of outcome helps. Overall we don't perceive it, we're built to not think about the end of our life. And that's fine, as long as you don't illude yourself that you're going to live forever. I wonder if I ever will be ready too, for now I just keep working on what is left

It is certainly a question that shakes anyone. You must remember that many times we forget that life is so ephemeral and short that we live postponing that dream, that project only with the excuse that you will do it later.
reply
Life is but a dream
reply
If life is ephemeral, then why bothering?
