Siemens Mobility, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and rail company Brightline West said Monday that Siemens is investing $60 million in the United States' first high-speed rail manufacturing plant.
The 300,000-square-foot facility, which will be built in Horseheads, New York, will produce American Pioneer 220 trainsets for Brightline West's $12 billion high-speed line between Las Vegas to Southern California.
Brightline West broke ground on the 218-mile, all-electric line in April, and officials said it should be operational in time for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In addition to the rail piece of the project, which will run in the median of Interstate 5, the line will also include construction of four stations and a vehicle maintenance facility.
