Must Win Game
I don't mean to be dramatic but tonight's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks is the 49ers most important regular season game of the year. They head into it banged up and demoralized by two 4th quarter collapses against weaker division opponents in the last three games. They seem to have lost their identity. Teams are playing them differently and they have abandoned the quick, short passing game. They have gone from the top team for Yards after the Catch to one of the worst teams in the league for Yards after the Catch. Last year Purdy was one of the top ten QBs for least amount of time holding the ball before passing. This year he is holding the ball longer than any other starting QB in the league. Sure CMC is out and Deebo and Kittle have been banged up and Aiyuk didn't play up to par until game 5 after his contract "hold in", but it's the NFL- next man up.
On defense they have struggled mightily with missed tackles and missed assignments. Other than Warner, Bosa and Lenoir no one has consistently played well. They have struggled against the run and all of their safeties have been terrible (aside from Hufunga- who came back for a whopping 11 plays before getting hurt again). Their new DC can't seem to get out of his own way. KOC and McVay took him to school in the Vikings and Rams games and while he was better against the Cardinals, the D got absolutely bullied on the game winning drive.
Special teams has been atrocious but that's nothing new. The 49ers have been bottom third of the league in Special Teams since Shanahan took over. He just doesn't care about special teams. Maybe he should. Fumbled punt (bounced off a guys foot) and missed extra point were huge factors why the Super Bowl even went to OT. In the past the 49ers have been able to hide their special teams woes due to being great on offense and defense. Not so much anymore.
And the most concerning issue. The 49ers have lost their physicality and ability to impose their will on the other teams. Instead they seem to be content with try to counterpunch what the opposition is trying to do to them instead of playing their game.
Starting 0-3 in the division and 0-4 in the conference for a team that considers itself a contender who "just needs to get healthy and rolling" is simply not an option. The remaining schedule is far too difficult to rattle off a 9 game win streak like they did two years ago when they started 3-5. Tonight is a must win for them. Both in terms of keeping all their divisional, playoff and super bowl aspirations alive and also proving they are who we thought they were.
The difference between a win and a loss tonight is monumental. Win and you are tied for first place with the Seahawks with the head to head tiebreaker in hand but lose and you are on the cusp of last place with every other team in the division holding the head to head tiebreaker against you.
I expect to see the real San Francisco 49ers tonight. If not, it's time to start thinking about 2025.

I think it'll be a high scoring game with Hawks somehow managing to win it.
reply
Hawks somehow managed to lose it, lol.
reply
Which one is true? Hawks win or lose? It seems like you two are guessing?
reply
Look who's making prediction for a game he knows nothing about. You even don't know too much about Cricket. Remember, you predicted for MI to win IPL and team was last standing.
reply
Speaking of IPL, when does the season start?
reply
March/April
reply
Ok. I think I will support the Royal Challengers this season.
reply
I'm a supporter of RCB too. But they've never won it.
Before that we've Big Bash in Australia. It's also a big league in Cricket.
reply
Hope not

Don't count me bi g on this. I'm a fan of this game with little knowledge but I'm not bad at predictions.

It’s a long season. Niners need to get healthy. Mostly CMC! I think the division is still the niners but it won’t be a cake walk!

I had achilles tendonitis before (stupidly started sprinting forgetting that I'm old lol)
Not a sports doc but I wonder if they aren't rushing him back... took a while for that to disappear for me and my case was really mild but still annoying AF
reply
I don't think they will rush him back. I don't think he will play until after the bye week. Either they win a couple games and tread water until the bye or they lose a couple games and the season is effectively over so no point in rushing him back.
reply
0-3 in the division with chiefs, cowboys, packers, lions, bills left on the schedule would be code red. Gotta win tonight.
reply
It feels that way but other teams will lose as well. Plus niners got the roster and coach to beat all those teams
reply
True and 7 teams get in but you want to get as many playoff home games as possible.
reply
KC proved last season it’s not needed. Haha didn’t work out for the bills last season
reply
Not needed for KC because they have Mahomes and the refs.
reply
To pay Purdy 100M or go back to QB drafting
reply
I think he will get a deal similar to Hurts.
49ers don't need to make a decision on that until the offseason. Let's see how the season goes. So far he has played a couple really good games, a couple decent games and one really bad one.
Ultimately, I think they sign him because Shanahan trusts him and Shanahan always keeps his guys but I am sure there will be some temptation especially if this season doesn't go well to try to strike lightning in a bottle again with another QB draft pick and reset the QB cap hit for another 4 years.

Just won almost 20k sats on the 49ers

Very nice
reply
Excuse me sir, but please give credit to the LA Rams for defeating them without both stars Nacua or Kupp!

Stafford and McVay took our new DC to school.

If it isn't a must win, its at least close. Momentum wise it is very important.
reply
Technically not a must win but with the Chiefs and Cowboys the next two weeks. Could easily be 2-6 at the bye if things really go astray and even 3-5 is bad considering some of the tough games in the second half of the schedule. Need to find a way to win 2 of the next 3 before the bye and this being a divisional game it is the most important one to win. Chiefs game next week would be nice to win but non conference game isn't that important.
reply
Seattle is a tough place to play
reply
Definitely. 49ers have had a lot of success there in recent years though. They are undefeated against the Seahawks since Geno Smith took over as QB. We will see, 49ers definitely don't look like themselves and Seattle really needs a win too after dropping two in a row.
MacDonald's defensive scheme looked awful good against the 49ers last year when he was with the Ravens. I don't think he has the same caliber players with Seattle but he might be able to give them fits.
reply
I hope to see one of the best games of San Francisco today, let's keep making history.
reply
Game is actually in Seattle but yes, hope for a great performance from the 49ers.
reply
What do your bets look like tonight?
reply
A couple small player prop parlays. I am not betting spread, moneyline or the over under in this game.
reply
Same for me. Nothing on the overall game result
reply
I've been trying to figure out how to bet this game. Having beautiful weather isn't great for the 49ers, since the Seahawks bread and butter is their passing game.
Still, I expect the 49ers to win it.
Here's a table of the parlay odds I'm looking at:
Money LineUnder 49Over 49
49ers+189+189
Seahawks+410+410
If the Seahawks win, what do you expect that to look like? I'm leaning towards the Seahawks winning a high scoring game being more likely than them winning a low scoring one.
reply
At least it isn't raining. Brock plays poorly in the rain. I think that's right. More likely the 49ers win an under game but I think either team can win an over or under game.
I would lean towards the under but I could easily see a 27-24 type of game. I could also see a 23-17 type of game. It's Thursday night, hard to tell how it will play out.
I will be rooting for a 31-3 49ers win though. Haha.
reply
Alright, 31-3 49ers + the under. Thursday games do tend to be a little sloppier. I could see the 49ers defense coming out on fire and keeping the score low.
I might just sit this one out.
reply
Haha 31-3 is what I am rooting for. I don't think it will happen. Just want to see the dominant 49ers again. Don't want the 4th quarter to come down to whether the 49ers will find a new way to shoot themselves in the foot or not. They do need to win a gritty game but how about next week.
reply
We shall see! My fiances family loves the 49ers - Selfishly, I don't want to go to a bunch of 49ers parties lol
reply
They sound smart.
reply
Geno was a terrible Jet and the Seahawks got me eliminated from the survivor, go niners!
reply
Need to clean up the late game mistakes, but the Niners are still a force.
reply
Hope we see it tonight.
reply
I have 10k sats that Seahawks win
reply
A Seahawks fan and their sats are soon parted.
reply
I was so upset lol
reply
Understandable. Another chance to win some sats come Sunday.
reply
I already got all my bets for this Sunday I was hoping Seahawks would hit so I could wager another 10k
reply
I hope all your Sunday bets hit.
reply
Well I usually don't root against fellow stackers to lose their sats and I hope you win every other bet you make this year but I hope you lose this one.
reply
SEAHAWKS ARE COMING BACK! 23-17!!
That kickoff return TD has got em ROLLIN!
reply
Same story with the 49ers every week. Let the team hang around and then give up an explosive play to give them the momentum.
