A while ago I was looking for a movie and getting frustrated at endless sea of options on all of the streaming platforms. I end up scrolling through a sea of junk in hopes of discovering something new and worth watching but to no avail on most nights. That's when I decided that I just need a massive list of all of the movies and TV series that I already like and I can search for some of them and maybe find some related or similar movie types.
Rather than individually sharing each one of my favorite movies, I am just going to share my movie database with everyone and anyone can recommend movies to be added to my list as well as watch any of the movies and shows that I have archived.
This is definitely an incomplete list. I have a lot more movies and shows I would like to add as well as some of my own notes and commentary.
Some of these movies are my favorite and others are just some movies that looked good to me so I watched them. Some are cult classics and others are rubbish. For example, I hate the movie American Psycho but it's a cult classic and on the list.
I have yet to add any series like Star Wars, the MCU, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, etc because it will just take a lot of time to type up and organize.
Let me know what you think. Enjoy.

Fantastic list! I'm a huge fan of comedies and there are a bunch of good suggestions
reply
I'm glad people are finding it useful.
Looking forward to all of your comedy suggestions.

Even today I repeated MIB two parts.

Did you know about ShowCase and CineLog apps?
reply
I haven't heard of these until this comment. Thanks for sharing. They seem like media manager tools to actually watch the movie or something.
I plan on setting up my own JellyFin instance when I have the bandwidth but it's lower priority than just managing this list and watching on streaming services when they're available.
reply
No, they're not for watching; not a replacement for Jellyfin/Kodi. They're just for managing your own list of movies/series and reviews about them (just like your airtable), augmented with information from TMDB.

I like that. I will have to take a closer look. Thanks for sharing.

Nice list

Thanks a bunch.
Please let me know of any good films you think I should add.

Give Casino Royale a movie if you haven't watched it yet! I love that movie. Nice list.
reply
I have seen Casino Royale but it's been a long time. I just added it to the list but I need a better way to organize specific series like 007, Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc.

That looks fresh. I like the Tor accessibility. I will have to look into something like that in the future.
Where does that media live? On your own server? Do you run JellyFin or Plex?
reply
Yes, our media is hosted on a local NAS. I have a local jellyfin server that indexes the media library, this can also post to Movary automatically.
reply
That sounds like a fresh setup.
Is there any way for you to filter out actors or look for a movie with specific or multiple actors that you like?
reply
When you click on an actor Movary and Jellyfin show you what other films they have acted in or directed , is this what you mean ?
reply
Kind of but that sounds very useful. I will have to look into this further.

Using air table! Nice!
reply
Yeah, I like the sorting and filtering options so if I want to watch a movie with Brad Pitt and Chris Pratt, I can just filter out all of the movies without those actors and I am left with no other movies except Moneyball.
Or maybe I want a movie with Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. I just set the filter and the only movie on my list with both of them is The Prestige so maybe I will watch that.
Airtable is a really powerful tool. I really like it but wish I had an open source alternative that worked just as well.

Solid movie list

Thanks so much. Let me know if you have any particular flicks you think I should add.

Needs a lot of work. As soon as I clicked on my own link, I can't help but want to fill in all of the "Year" fields.
So...much....IMDB.....
