I am going fully into the flames with this one and it might upset some people but ya know it has to be said. Yesterday a UN Inquiry into the Israel-Hamas war issued a statement before they release their full report in which they accuse
"Israel of carrying out a concerted policy of destroying Gaza's healthcare system, actions amounting to both war crimes and the crime against humanity of extermination."
They were not done though as they continued going after them stating
"Israeli forces of deliberately killing and torturing medical personnel, targeting medical vehicles and restricting permits for patients to leave the besieged Gaza Strip."
Now that all is pretty damning sounding but I am going to go "crazy" here and look at everything as a whole. First let's just get the elephant out of the room and say Israel did not start this. Hamas launched an unprovoked attack and murdered over 1,200 Israelis almost all of them civilians. Then they took over 200 hostages back.
Then it comes out how the UN's own agency UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) employed multiple people who were videoed engaging in the attack on Israel, then we find out Israel wasn't lying there are tunnels located either at or near many UNRWA facilities and given that these are electrified and concrete fortified tunnels it wasn't like this process was quiet. UNRWA was compliment. Everything seemed to die down until a few weeks ago when there was an airstrike in Lebanon that took out the Hamas leader in Lebanon only to find out AGAIN he was employed by UNRWA until earlier this year.
While it is easy for some outside agency looking in to see videos of damage to vehicles and hospitals but in their statement they only target Israel not Hamas or the Palestinian Islamic Jihad who has known to cause some of the biggest civilian death strikes in Gaza (Al-Ahli Arab Hospital explosion that killed an estimated 500 people caused by a Palestinian Islamic Jihad missile malfunction). There are so many videos in Gaza showing Hamas and their allies using refugee camps to launch missiles from that show them carrying guns around hospitals and ambulances not to mention the videos we have recently received where they tried to hyjack a humanitarian aide truck.
Are they perfect? No. But did the rules of this area launch an attack and start a war? Yes. Civilians sadly die in war that is a sad fact and while much can be done to limit it its inevitable. Over the course of the war as well Israel has continued to lower the number of civilian casualties which is one of the reasons why with the Rafah operation countries called it a red line until it was crossed and they realized well that didn't lead to mass civilian deaths like we thought. The rules of war would typically protect these sites however once you militarize it as has been done then all bets are off.
It is wild to me that so many people even my age somehow do not understand this or how they expect Israel to just "accept" these attacks from Gaza and Hezbollah. With Gaza considerably winding down operations Israel finally took care of the issue that was Hezbollah. I am sure we will get another report about this again and how Israel did this all wrong but Hezbollah is a designated terrorist organization for one and that doesn't even factor in the so-called "peacekeepers" from the UN and the Lebanaon Gov't and Hezbollah never followed the rules as UN Resolution UNSCR 1701 which both Lebanon and Israel agreed to end the 2006 war required Hezbollah to be disarmed and withdraw noth of the Litani River. To Israel this is an enormous point of contention and is something they have made clear will have to happen for it to even think about agreeing to a ceasefire.
