When people haven't had drug problems in the past but choose to not take them, we call that straightedge in the states. "Sober" is more often (but not always) associated with people recovering from a problem.

My favorite part is where it implies that recreational drug use is an attempt to discharge emotion and being straight edge doesn't mean you forgo that.
