More than three decades after the reunification of Germany, the damage caused by the imbecile ideology of communism is still visible in the former communist part of the country compared to the West German economy.
It's a pity that the decision was not made in 1990 to establish free capitalism, but instead to go backwards hand in hand, bravely led by green, black and red socialists and march forward into socialism (we can slowly put the yellow liberal socialists of the FDP to bed, as they are busy building up the state censorship apparatus together with the other commies. Even the last pseudo-liberals will probably turn away from this pile of garbage).
At least then there will be equality in the economic decline again.
How do people reconcile this in their minds? I assume they view East Germany as having been a nightmare compared to West.
Do they attribute that to being ruled by the Soviet outsiders, rather than the system of state control?
reply
It was not a nightmare. What is happening today is more frightening. Both sides (USA and Soviet Union) had a interest to show the good side of their system. They pumped a lot of money into west and east germany. But the west got everything and the east had no bananas. There was also a shortage of meat and other products you need for a good life but it was affordable. And this is the reason why it was always sold out. On both sides there was a system of state control. No outsiders ruling. But in both cases the laws had to be compatible with the occupying power. Or do you really think west germany was independent? If you look at todays map, there are no military bases in east germany and no nato bases and no russian soldiers. When you look at west germany: not much has changed. Still a lot of US bases, US soldiers and Nato bases. They even left the nuclear warheads in west germany. The soviet union is dead but they are pushing even harder into russia. Now we are at the ukrainian border fighting against....(What? Communism is dead. So we fight putin or are we doing the same thing hitler did?)
reply
I realize that West Germany was not independent. The point was that the laws that were compatible with the West allowed much greater standards of living than those compatible with the Soviets. People were only fleeing in one direction.

I just saw this here on SN the other day: #716939
People see history through rose colored glasses and thanks to propaganda actually think that life was great under communism.
reply
No it was not. But you have to accept that not everything was bad. Hospital and doctors like mentioned here was better for the working class. Because you had the same for all people and doctor study was free. But it got worse because the doctors left the east to work (make money) in the west. It was a brain drain. Getting free education in the east and go back to west to earn money. This is also a reason why the wall was built.

Germany has had many bad experiences with their parties leading them astray.

Political parties are a problem globally now, especially in the countries where different variants of deep states have learnt how to turn them into the opposite, destroying real democracy instead of supporting it...

So it might be a problem of the herd mentality too, blindly following those leaders to their downfall once and again.

I've driven through a lot of small roads in the East, its an eerie experience...
Its ultimately all based on fiat, once that breaks everything will have to change, and maybe then the areas that seem the most hopeless now might have a better chance at rebuilding in a totally different paradigm.
Knowing how bad things can become is informative in so many ways...

Good morning... keep this possibility in mind... it could be deduced from the fact that Germany did not leave the path of communism... but rather painted its face in a more pleasant colour than red... and as it worked the political parties stuck to that same idea... and the result has been fatal... with a Germany that little by little is ceasing to be a power and that is being surpassed in the Eurozone by several countries... I would like positive news that will show me that Germany is no longer in that rubbish of Socialism... that only destroys countries and kills men, women and children with hunger...
