I zap them especially when they are good (not "I got a cowboy hat!"), but I kind of cringe when any of the top 5 stories are ~meta.

Oh I don't blame them at all. I celebrate it. The cringe is for lurkers/passersby.

There's no cringe when the ~meta is really thoughtful either.
