Looks like the NHL is replacing the All Star Game this season with a tournament involving Canada, US, Sweden and Finland.
What do you guys think of this?
Should be better than the ASG.
Sats for all, GR
I'm assuming it's sort of like the NBA All-Star Rising Stars thing. These are all NHL players involved, right?
I'm surprised there are enough from Finland and Sweden for it to make sense.
My prediction: Canada will lose and it will be embarrassing for the entire nation.
reply
Yes, NHL players will be playing.
Finland and Sweden have tons of players in the NHL. Russia would be another no brainer but they are left out I assume for political reasons.
Canada will not lose to the US.
reply
I didn't specify to whom Canada would lose, just that it would be embarrassing.
reply
Certainly possible.

I would like to see them replace the the NBA All-Star game with an 8 team 3-on-3 tournament.
Was the NHL All-Star game similarly terrible to the NBA/NFL games? I know you've mentioned it being pretty bad.
reply
Skills competition was pretty good but yes the game was terrible.
reply
I like it USA!

The All Star game has been so disappointing since they tried to rob John Scott of his spot before the outcry. With how physical it is I mean from players to goalies it just is hard. I’m all for trying a new idea eventually will find something!

I've been to a few ASGs in the past but the newest iteration/skills comp has been unwatchable for me. I imagine the players will care more here than another ASG but significantly less than a playoff push.

which country has the most strict immigration policy? that's my pick

more strict than Finland? I guess Finland has gone crazy with the party girl Prime Minister
reply
Not sure actually. I just found that interesting.

why pay them when you can burn them? serious question
reply
I don’t think they should be paying them or burning them.
reply
internment camps, pit bulls and rottweillers

No skills competition? That was the best part. This tournament is fine, but I hope it's short.
reply
Takes place over 8 days. Each team plays each other once and then the top two teams play in the final.
reply
I guess it depends on whether the players really care. Will stars sit out to avoid injury? Whatever
reply
Way better, love it.

Sweden or Finland will be my pick
