Photographing strangers is both a challenge and an art form. It presents various difficulties that add weight and value to this activity.
Even though I've done it many times, I always get a little nervous before approaching someone to take them a photo. I never know how they'll react, and there's always the possibility of making someone feel uncomfortable.
These thoughts have crossed my mind countless times before asking someone for a photo. Over time, you learn to read people and identify who might be open to it.
In this case, this girl was wearing a super cute outfit and it was clear she was dressed for the festival, so I thought she'd probably say yes. And she did! I was able to take a few photos of her.
As I usually do, I started with a few wide shots, keeping my distance to build trust:
Since her outfit had a kind of "cape," I asked her to play with it while I took some photos:
I showed the girl the photos we'd taken so far and she was really excited. She loved them, so I suggested taking a few more close-ups, focusing on her beautiful face.
And finally, a classic pose for when someone is wearing glasses:
In the end, both the girl and I loved the results of this spontaneous photo session. I hope you like them as much as we do!
That's so awesome. I never thought about what it would be like to approach a stranger and ask them to take photos. I can see why it is another art form in itself. Beautiful pictures.
