(Original headline included "allegedly," but it couldn't fit)

Man. You usually think of hacks causing danger either in the ransomware/hospital situations, or when it's actively a part of espionage/warfare (hacking water treatment/nuclear/electrical plants). This amount of danger from a disgruntled ex-employee is a different kind of thing.

What the hell is wrong with people?

reply

Seriously. I get being pissed at your ex employer, I even get maybe not understanding the unintended consequences of revenge, but this isn't that. This is just malice that could kill folks.

Thankfully neither of my kids have any significant food allergies but for parents whose kids do stuff like this must scare the shit out of them.

Is this in any way related to the wrongful death lawsuit filed against Disney for one of their restaurants serving allergens to a customer when they repeatedly told them about the allergy?

I don't think so -- as I understand it, this case was one where the restaurant really did mess up, but Disney doesn't run it (but also is trying to abuse EULAs like no one has ever abused them before). That said, it's possible there's a lot of information that hasn't come out yet.

There is no justification whatsoever that Michael Scheuer can give. Imagine how many families could have suffered because of this psychopath
