Brazil has a long tradition in ufology. There is a report in Brazil released by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security in 2018 highlighting audio and images of what became known as the “official UFO night”, on May 19, 1986.
The post on the Brazilian government website begins with: “Do you believe there could be life on another planet?" The report then highlights the events of the night in which around 21 unidentified flying objects were tracked by radars from the Integrated Air Defense Center and Air Traffic Control. At the time, five Brazilian Air Force jets were sent to pursue them, but none were successful.
In the audio files from the National Archives, made available by the ministry, an operator at the São José dos Campos airport tower, in São Paulo, says he observed luminous points that changed color, with a predominance of red. That same night, he himself concluded that “these are not stars” and described the possibility of seeing UFOs in front of him. The operator then gets in touch with control and other cities to try to understand what was happening in the airspace on that May 19th. In his words, the event was “beautiful, you see”.
