I'm converging towards the idea that, besides our phones, we need "sovereign units". This units would host all of what we want to have sole control of online: a blog, account and communication property trough a self hosted Nostr relay, a node to process transactions, mail+cloud, etc. That would be sole control over the information we want to share (through a blog), our social media, our private communication, and our finances. All hosted by a private "sovereign unit" that we can leave online 24/7 in a safe place (and more units in other places when viable) and access via the phone and our pc from anywhere. We might use centralized services for performance but we will always have the backup of fully owning and being able to access our own data, communication and finances, from anywhere.
I'm increasingly interested in such an application (even for commercial purposes, like selling phones) but I don't see it implemented yet. Is there something I'm missing?
I can develop such a device myself, but I want a reality check from the community first!
There we go, this is exactly what I was thinking about:
The important thing is that the concept exists and is already being commercialized, so more open-source alternatives will naturally follow.

Seems like an important step away from "trusted" third parties.

Sounds like what start9 and umbrel are doing. I think Start9 is coming out with a router as well.
Would be cool to see some sort of pear runtime application that allows "sovereign units to communicate with each other, or maybe some sort of mls double ratchet magic.
I think we're at the early innings of sovereign tech, and we'll see your ideas come fully into fruition within the next 10 years.

So-freaking-cool thank you!!! I wasn't aware of that one, it's even better!!! :D
That's it, I can sleep peacefully, the race is on :D

It looks like an interesting product... 🤔 and very complete and it looks quite similar to what is indicated in the publication. We would have to see or test how real its scope is in terms of storing important data!!

Sure it has to test itself, but the important thing is that it exists, materializing the concept, and it's being sold commercially, acknowledging a market. So I expect a lot of alternatives to follow suit

I totally agree with you 😊
