Reading this in the Old Testament blew me away. How did Ambimelech accomplish this?

I just read it, and the conspiracy has been going on for a long time.
With Shechem's support and money, Abimelech hired violent and unscrupulous men, who accompanied him to Ophrah.
In Ophrah he invaded his father's house and killed his seventy brothers, with the exception of Jotham, the youngest, who managed to escape and hide.

Yes. Abimelech knew that the people had the desire to be ruled by a monarch, as happened with other peoples, so he conspired with the leaders of Shechem to become the only sovereign

The Bible also has the story of Joseph who was sold by his brothers
