I certainly feel for them, but they did have to travel right past America to get to Canada.
Americans have been telling everyone that Canadians are a bunch of commies, since the dawn of time.
Fair. I don't think America was very welcoming to the Vietnamese in the 70s.

How's the view from your high horse?

I have no horse when my government is stealing people's shit. It's a disgrace and embarrassing. I am just pointing out why they might have preferred Canada at the time.

It really is horrible. During the height of the War on Terror, we strongly considered moving to Canada or New Zealand. How the mighty have fallen.

Good thing you didn't. I expect things will marginally improve once Trudeau is out but so much of the nanny state nonsense and welfare state has become entrenched it is hard to change things. Mike Harris is still talked about like he is the devil by much of the population in Ontario from when he was Premier of the province all he did was cut some social/gov programs so they could balance the budget and people talk about it like they were suffering through the Irish potato famine.

We have some family that might be moving to Toronto for work reasons, but they're moving from one of America's most expensive commie cities, so it's more or less a lateral move.

Toronto is a nice city if you have to live in the city. If they do plan to move let me know and I will send you some good areas to live.
