We also have the example of the Cubans, who fled that tragic island and have already experienced the devastating moral and economic consequences of collectivist policies that seek to model an egalitarian society -- a failed experiment that sought to create a "new man", who would have a worldview communal and would always sacrifice himself for the "common good".
This experiment resulted in an anti-utopian and economically bankrupt society, whose main characteristics are widespread poverty and an incredibly repressive system of social control, managed by a government with unlimited powers over its citizens.
