While Trump had handily won Alaska in 2016 and 2020 the seat was lost due to Republican infighting. Interestingly enough the Representative-elect Nicholas Begich is the grandson of former Alaska rep Nick Begich.

Nick Begich became a huge name when on October 16, 1972, he and House Majority Leader Hale Boggs (D-Louisiana) boarded 4 person flight from Anchorage to Juneau and the flight disappeared. Given the House Majority Leader went missing there was an enormous search and rescue operation that took place but to this day no wreckage or belonging to anyone have been found.

The sons and grandson though continued in the same footsteps though with roles in both the State and Federal level of government
