So I post this link here as I see discussions pop up in the media accusing that Russia did it like with a Nordstream. The problem with this narrative is - if you check who are the paying customers on this cable - they are all Russian companies. They prefer this faster route for watching Netflix and Pornhub, there is no incentive for Russians to cut it. Also, this is an important route for Chinese who are looking for shorter latency routes... It's like cutting your premium subscription and switching to the one with adds but you paid for premium for the next 10-15 years in advance...

Why does Russia run regular drills to prepare for "sovereign internet" and its "electronic government" gosuslugi.ru portal sent out emails to gmail users urging to switch to local email providers? I bet North Korean model without pornhub and netflix is quite attractive for putin.
Also, they needed to react to ATACMS news.

I agree about sovereign internet and Chinese model, but you don’t need to blow up cables for that. You have border crossings which are in your full control. It really feels like there is no plan, just a child going into mass distraction mode after someone’s being nasty to him.

but they will blame the west for cutting them off. like they already do to justify the drills. to aim the plebs anger at america.

Guaranteed there's people that will think this headline from just last week is a coincidence

[They] have been warning us for years this would happen when things finally go hot, and that Starlink was a national security imperative (not just availability but also sigint)
[They] no longer own news distribution via the internet, they hate that X is a thing ... so cyberpandemics/undersea cables etc are all on the menu for when they need an information blackout

You need much more than 1 cable cut to cause a blackout https://www.submarinecablemap.com

No shit sherlock, they had to spook people with SARS and Bird Flu etc for decades before hitting'em with the pandemic O-Plan... got to set the stage so people accept how such a thing could happen... every grid down / cyberpandemic / undersea cable headline is the same.... there will be an internet blackout when they need one.
Something acute like this could simply be tactical in the short term too, justification for moving more submarines in that area or forcing traffic through another intel agencies routers
Base case is it's fake and nothing actually happened, they just want us to know it could happen.
