Two days ago the first photos and videos emerged of the overnight attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy in the Sumy Administrative Region. This has long been a city and an area that Russia has wanted to gain control over though Ukraine has continued to repell attacks against it and the surrounding area. However, no matter how great your defense is missiles will get through over time. From the attack that hit a residential building 11 were killed including 2 children and 89 more were injured.
They were not done though as the following night drone attacks hit another residential in a different city in the Sumy Region with the city of Hlukhiv being the target. This attack has so far resulted in the confirmed death of 12 people including 1 child with others believed to be trapped under the rubble of the building. The building hit was a dormitory for a school so it is pretty mind-blowing that this would be chalked up as a military target and follows the Russian MO of hitting everything and anything.
After this attack though I do not think Russia expected the response that they got as they have now claimed that ATACMS were used in the Bryansk Oblast. Russia claims that they downed all of the missiles with debris from one causing a small fire they put out... The issue with this is the videos from the area that the missiles are believed to have struck and all of the secondary explosions that resulted from the missiles going clear on into the military base.
This is a classic fu*k around and find out by Russia and Ukraine obviously has targets it is ready to attack. Now that they can use the long-range missiles, even though they do not have a ton of them, it frees up mass drone swam attacks on other targets that are closer by. It also causes Russia to either move more military aid further back or to try and disburse it more. Again the issue with this is it goes against how Russia manages a war so no matter what the choice is the net result is a negative.
With Russian demands continuing to be honest to God absurd with today marking the 1,000 days of the war, I am not sure when this thing will end because Ukrainians and their partisan warfare even within occupied territories are next level as they continue to successfully execute not only assassinations of high-level military officers but without a navy they managed to force most of Russia's Navy to flee occupied Crimea.
