I feel like that split was long enough ago, and it's been pretty clear what his positions are on things since. I'm a big fan of not penalizing folks for the sins of their past (a few obvious exceptions aside), and most folks I know have changed their mind or looked back on a formerly-firm conviction and wondered how they could have bought into it.
