The OP got me thinking, (Bitcoin can of course fix this)

Solution:

  • Streaming Sats to Mozillia for each page load (or some other metric) would be a good use case for BTC lighting.

But to my surprise Mozilla org doesn't accept bitcoin:

These pages are painful to read. I would of thought the Mozillia crowd would have had a large overlap into bitcoin. But looks like I am wrong.
As of April 2022, the Mozilla Foundation is no longer accepting proof-of-work cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. See: Foundation/Cryptocurrency_Donations for more details. The remainder of this page has some historical information for 2021 and earlier. If you have questions, contact us at donate@mozilla.org.
Over the course of Q2, our fundraising team has looked into implementing a policy that would see us only accept proof-of-stake cryptocurrencies. At this time, our vendor doesn’t offer a service that distinguishes between types of cryptocurrencies. Coupling that with the increased volatility, we’ve made the decision to continue to hold on accepting any cryptocurrencies until further notice.

Unless I'm missing something there's a confusing about the Mozilla foundation and Firefox itself as a project.
Firefox is going to be here. Mozilla has needed to adapt to reality. There's been some poor focus in my opinion.

I don't think Mozilla will go bankrupt, because Mozilla itself is still widely used by the public, and to this day Mozilla still provides a means of synchronous storage of funds.

The google money is 80% of their income, and that is most likely going away.. could be big trouble for them.

Probably a big player will take over it. We are great full that Firefox is open source!

Even if Mozilla goes under, it's an open source project. Someone else will take over the project or fork it.

I'm sure it will get forked, but if its a small team, it will not be able to keep up with Chrome. It won't stand a chance without a lot of $$$ behind it. So someone big would have to take it under their wing.. Microsoft or Meta, maybe a smaller company like System76 could wing trying to have it keep up... but it will take a lot of resources.

The moment microsoft or meta take over firefox is provably the moment i would leave it after many many happy years... Or fork it😉 If, then it must be a company that has a FOSS spirit... Proton i could see here... Mullvad... Or then comunity forks...
If they would only realize that they could implement sat streaming... Which should be optional at the beginning of course (otherwise a lot of people leave) ... That was an idea already in 1998 but the ad industry won... It would be a nicer internet..
