I’m interested to hear what folks think will become of Android if it is broken off from Google? No more pixels? Will that kill Graphene? All kinds of stuff could happen.

What's stopping them from spinning off android into a seperate company, listing it, buying up shares on the public market and putting boot lickers on the board?

I think that would be too obvious. I also believe Android isn't very profitable. So they would have to feed it with one of those make google the default deals which got them in trouble in the first place.

Might go closed source to be profitable. Right now it's development is funded by Google's ad revenue. GrapheneOS would likely die IMO.

It could lead to a renaissance or a revolution in the custom ROM community. GrapheneOS and its cousins could thrive without the big G’s watchful eyes - more freedom, more innovation.

Where will financial backing come from? I don’t think it makes a ton of money as is.. maybe it becomes a foundation?
