Why should one hand know what the other is doing?
What a wonderful job it is to be a teacher. We all think we are the smartest and best people in the world.
But communicating with each other is basically not there as a skill.
Best example today: We got a short notice that we have a training for our computer software today. I got the notification while I was teaching a class (9:20). After class I noticed that I'm not in the group for today, but for Wednesday, at a time when I have a class.
So the scheduler is already incompetent. But that is not enough. I managed to get in today. But honestly, nobody cares about the software, they are just bitching and fighting about nonsense we have been fighting about since im at this school.
Sitting in that software training for 90 minutes and not learning anything (and not getting paid for being there) feels so useless. Don't you have something to do in your free time?
Now we are in a forced team meeting. Sitting here for hours. Useless discussions and useless conversations.
Two colleagues and I have bingo cards for the last few meetings.
On these cards are the topics we always talk about and never change because our principal has no balls and we never find a consensus.
On this bingo card we have:
- Smartphone use at school
- Constant interruptions of class to go to the bathroom.
- Smoking problems
My day starts at 7 a.m. here at school. I leave school at 5 p.m.
Parents always think we have too much free time.
If I could work as efficiently as I did in my previous job, I would be home right now.
So much bureaucracy (yes, we are the public sector) and so much inefficiency.
Such a waste of time...
p.s. you would think that teachers would behave in meetings. Since they yell at kids all day to pay attention and not talk to each other while you are talking. But look at us. I'm writing this post, and at least 4 people are trying to scream their opinions into the room at the same time, while there's a lot of chat going on around them.
Aren't we wonderful? Tax dollars well spent
