Something I've liked about SN since I arrived is that the exposure to scammers is very low, I suppose it's because there is no option to send direct messages, that is, here they can't scam us like in Telegram (example in this post #735421) and in other places.
That doesn't mean that SN is exempt from these types of situations in one way or another. What can we do? I know, SN is not X, nor any other similar social network where users are censored for their content, here we are all free to publish whatever we want, but when situations like these arise: #758916 and #783734
Can't there be the possibility of sanctioning, blocking, silencing certain SN users? Not arbitrarily, obviously, but as a penalty, if a group of stackers detects that there is a scammer in the community, they can act on it. Downzapping posts and comments can already be done, so why not users?
It's just a question, an idea, I'd like to know what other people think, or what other ideas could help in these situations. For now it's manageable because it's a small community, but what will happen when it gets bigger?
I think the big thing is to downvote or downzap. The community monitoring itself is important.

Exactly, that's why I had that doubt.

Actually, l just shouldnt have sent sats in the first place.

You are a good person who just still had to learn a lesson: not everybody deserves you.

we need more cats and less aouwawawa
I think I am going to post this clip under every post that I downzapped from now
Exactly, that's why I had that doubt.

If a particular user gets downzapped enough then their new content will start in "outlawed" status, which is similar to them being muted.
We probably need to be more diligent about downzapping, since a new wave of stackers will likely flow in with this bull market phase.
reply
Is that how it works? After a while, they probably just create new accounts?
reply
That is how I remember k00b explaining it. They might create new accounts, but you can't see if your own posts are outlawed.

Another thing that worries me a bit is the links. Here we use the links as resources to teach or recommend some article or content. Maybe I'm being too paranoid, I don't know, but I have thought about it a lot.
reply
People learn pretty quickly that spamming links is expensive and won't get much engagement until people get to know you.
I believe territory owners can prohibit certain post types, so a territory could become purely for discussions. Eventually, they'll probably make it possible to charge different amounts for different post types and that would give owners another way to cut down on spam.

This was not on my radar yet but sounds useful!

Someone mentioned it somewhere at some point and I just assume everything will get implemented eventually.
Interesting, I like that idea. It would be great if more people joined in to give ideas, good ideas.

What worries you about the links? Isn't the risk here like clicking on any other random link on the internet?
reply
Oh great, I was just asking, I'm not an expert on this stuff. It was an idea that came to my mind. I trust what you say.

I am also no expert haha
reply
Really? I don't believe you haha. I'm like a lady who only knows how to restart her cell phone hahaha. That's why I fall into paranoia, I wouldn't like SN to be hit by scammers.

yes
After a while, they probably just create new accounts?
They don't see that they are outlawed when they are logged in. It's a bit like a shadow ban.
But yes, they can create new accounts and start from scratch.
reply
I understand it's not like X where they leave you a message saying you're suspended. It's better that way, so they don't know. I like it.
reply
This shadow ban idea is genius.

I think the zap system and scaling cost to post helps with spam , the only hint of it I've seen so far is the endless link spamming by @Rsync25 and even then i figure if someone is stupid enough to pay all those zaps, it at least benefits the zap pool and territory founders
reply
Can't we do this easily already with downzaps and zaps?
reply
But not to the users directly, sometimes you have to eradicate from the root... I'm just saying... I'm just thinking. In other words, this shouldn't become like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, where if you use the word "black" they block you for a month. I'm saying that it would be good to downzap users who are scammers.
reply
That's an interesting thought.
