I commented on a post about censorship yesterday, the gist that I was thinking about is improvement of the "Downzap". Today it's effective in down ranking only the post or comment, but not really the user (but I could be incorrect) as they can just keep posting or commenting and receive zaps there. If you prevent from posting it's censorship, but what if enough unique users of an undetermined amount down zapped the offending user over a certain undetermined value each, then some sort of temporary penalty is invoked for like a week or something as a timeout. For example, you can't take their funds away, but you can either increase the cost for a certain amount of time or increase the % of zaps that go to the reward pool instead of the user for a period of time. Thus reducing the zap farming that many attempt by flooding the zone with posts and comments. This still allows the user to engage and discuss, and doesn't censor, but reduces the financial award if collectively enough people agree.
Edit: id love to know the logical issues with an approach like this, I'll admit I haven't thought very deeply about implications of consequences of doing something like this.
