Be the change you want to see in the world.
Instead of throwing my spare fiat into government bonds and index funds that perpetuate the status quo I am starting to participating in bitcoin startup fundraising.
By throwing some capital behind these companies, I can provide capital to people who have skills and knowledge to bring bitcoin focused products and solutions to the market in which all people can benefit.
Privacy, no-KYC, and hardcore maxi this series isn’t for you.
For the casual bitcoiner who might have a bit of extra fiat laying around and want to own bitcoin startups that align with your interests then this may be for you.
I am kicking off my first deal on Thunder Funder with an Simple Agreement for Equity (SAFE) with the startup Joltz
If you are to lazy to click on the link are are the terms of the deal.

Why do this blok?

I am fascinated by Taproot Assets by Lightning Labs. I know most just think it’s shitcoins on lightning but I think some really cool things can be done on the protocol.
Joltz is trying to be the first business to offer a real world product using the technology. Thus I will help them achieve their goal by adding some of my personal capital.

Bull case (🐂)

Taproot Assets finds product market fit and can take over many existing industries like gift cards, rewards points, and stablecoins.
Like it or not I think all of these things will exist on a bitcoin standard. Credit will always be around and I think Taproot Assets can be a vehicle to extend credit at a fraction of the cost of traditional finance all backed by bitcoin. For Taproot Assets to move about the lightning network sats are needed Don’t take my word for it

Bear case (🐻)

The tech is just too complicated for it to get any market share. The regulatory risks are always present. Taproot Assets mostly gets ignored by major lightning companies and node routers thus making it obsolete

Final thoughts

This is incredibly risky. As all investment carries risk I don’t expect to ever get a return on this investment.
The reasons for my investment are simple
  1. I am excited for Taproot Assets
  2. I really like Ian Major.
He has a tiny YouTube channel but has consistently put out good content. At the very least I feel good that I’m investing in a real passionate bitcoiner who is trying to bring value to the world using the Bitcoin tech stack

You invested in Joltz? That's awesome. Ian is great. I had a conference call with him a couple years back as I was interested in the business I thought I might be able to help him raise some capital and get him some retail businesses in the area to test his product but at that time they didn't really have anything ready to go for brick and mortar and rates were starting to rise so all the folks that I knew that might invest weren't interested.
