Reaching out to the community to get ideas for this year's College Football contest.

The Playoff bracket will be announced on Dec 8th.

Here is what we did last year #341312

We can do something similar but I am open to new ideas for what we should do in terms of a contest.

Let me know your thoughts.

Sats for all,
GR

As usual, I will offer up a bonkers idea. How about a parlay contest?

Each round, we pick as many of the games as we want to, but only get points if all of our picks hit. Bigger parlays get more points: i.e. five points for correctly picking five outcomes.

reply

First round 4 games. Second round 2 games. Championship game.

Could be interesting. Seems like it might work better in the March Madness tourney though.

reply

First and second round have 4 games. Them semi finals then championship. 12 teams make the playoff with top four teams receiving byes.

reply

Thanks for clarifying. Do you have any ideas for the contest?

reply

Before each round pick each game against the Vegas line and get points for each win. Pick a total for the final game as a tiebreaker if necessary.

If you wanted to make it more interesting you could win/lose points for how well your team did against the spread. For example if team a was a 10 point favorite and won by 17 you would gain 7 points. If they won by 3 you would lose 7 points.

You could also add in picking the totals and winning or losing points based on how much over or under the betting total is vs what the total score of the game ends up being.

reply

I like the spread plus or minus points idea but we are going to have a lot of players who aren't really familiar with the sport so I don't want to make it too complex for them. But I do like the idea that some picks could be worth more than others.

When I did the MLB playoff point challenge I just made each round worth increasingly more and added a bonus to each round (in that case was the number of games a series would go, but maybe in this case would be related to point differential).

reply

I didn't realize it was such a small number of games. Maybe this is a better Bowl Game contest.

reply

I'm in.
It's one off. right? And we only need to predict the outcome of games?

reply

The playoffs has 3 rounds so we will predict outcome of games and probably a tiebreaker. Last year it was like a giant pick 'em but I am open to idea for doing something different.

reply

Break it down in as many posts as possible. Take it day by day. We aren't here for weekly or monthly engagement.

reply

It will give me something to do with the @StackerSports account.

reply

Sure!
That account should've been running by now.

I think the first thing you can do with @StackerSports is post a monthly sports calender. I know it might sound weird but you just have to make a post with the links for various sports and telling which games or tournaments are of prime importance.

I don't know if it's the right time to say it but this territory has got so much potential you'd require to hire some people at one stage to manage it.

reply

Please count me in.

Is it also for NFL?

reply

No, this is College Football.

reply

It means young college boys participate in it?

reply

Yes college players. Some of these players will get drafted and play in the NFL. This will be the playoff for the top 8 teams.

reply

12 teams

reply

Ah yes. I forgot some teams get a bye in the first round.

reply

Great! 👍
I'll take part.

reply

I think you should put a low amount buy in. This will increase the reward pool.

reply

Not even sure if we will do a buy in but if we do it will be small.

reply

I think 1k sats are more than enough.

reply

I'm in for whatever format. New CFB playoffs should be exciting!

reply

Planning to take more of our sats? Haha.

There is some track record for that to occur. @tnuts420 (miss that guy- you would think he would be on here boasting about his Lions daily) won the NFL survivor pool and the CFB bowl challenge last year.

Haha. Yes darth does not approve of my zapping style, who I zap, what I zap, what I talk about on SN and probably what I ate for breakfast but that’s ok. The SN community needs one Darth. But only one.

reply

I think a one shot March Madness style bracket would be best! Busy around Christmas time.

Bonus points for picking lower seeded teams etc

reply

We did something similar with March madness last year where the tiebreaker was based on the seeds used. But this bracket will be much smaller bracket so more likely we will end up picking all the games.

reply

Let’s get some sats

reply

I am completely clueless here. I will follow whatever you decide and will try to do my best.

reply

I'm in too :)
