I originally found the band through a weird... I guess independent art house movie called Six String Samurai.
They kind of lean into humor, but they have so many moments of greatness, including (I suspect you're right on xylophone) dreamy melody accompanying the guitar and impassioned singing.
Just put good music on.

Red Elvises also have a killer cover of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" and is my preferred version.
