Ever since China's behavior in Hong Kong in the past few years...the majority of Taiwanese understand two things. There is no future where Taiwan would be treated as a special economic zone if brought under Chinese control... AND (more importantly) the majority of Taiwanese, especially those under 45'ish, identify as Taiwanese fully.

Taiwan has definitely accelerated the "Taiwanese Identity" in the past 5-8 years.
