Russia banked on Syria to be the hub for it to expand its presence in Africa. Wagner used Syria extensively and in return for the work in Africa Wager and now the Russian DoD doesn't take cash but gold. They can't get their equipment or guys to Africa or back easily anymore.

Syria was a critical warm water port something Russia doesn't have itself. This access was critical and so are screwed since Assad fell. The Rebel groups HATE Russia I mean they were literally killing them so there isn't a deal to be had and even the Russian Mail Blogger are saying this. They are in deep trouble.
