From ESPN
The deal includes no deferred money, sources said, and has escalators that can reach above $800 million.
I can't imagine locking yourself in for that long. So much can change in a year, let alone 15!

I mean for almost a billion I can be talked into a lot of stuff!

Very true!

Almost a billion to play some ball
reply
Almost a Billionaire!! Will he be able to make it through 15 years, though? Curious minds are asking.
reply
Well its NY so what get rid of 50% of it for taxes lol. Its a shit load of money for sure but 🤷🏼‍♂️ if he signed in say Flordia or Texas with no state income it would go a hell of a lot further!
reply
Did they offer such bountiful contracts? Pretty sure he went with the highest offer.
reply
Lol do you know who owns the Mets? He wasn't going to be outbid even if for the player they would make more money elsewhere
reply
No, I don’t know who owns the Mets. A famous person?

This will be the worst contract in sports history but the first 5 years should be ok.
reply
What could save him is his walk vs strikeout rate is freaking wild! Sure he might not clobber 30 by the end of it but he's likely to co tinue to be a high on base just because the guy knows the zone so well
reply
I am sure he will be really good for at least half the contract. Those last 5-7 years are going to be brutal though.
reply
It could be longer but I agree assume he starts going down. At say 34/35 that's 8 to 9 years and gives the Mets a lot of time to shape a roster and make several not playoff but World Series runs
