One interesting thing about identity-broadcast social media like Twitter/Instagram is people feel empowered to talk to the many like they're demons and idiots because the sense is that your takes only show up in the feeds of people that agree with you (or at least want to see them) and those people are the few. Etiquette and social norms are self-defined so the result is a you-of-a-kind platform and ME-IS-RIGHT-IS-GOOD-IS-SMART.
This is why they are so popular with each other and fulfill the addict’s needs for dopamine. They get their rewards from the likes and retweets and such. They have an incentive structure that fits the needs of their users and keeps them coming back for more and more. They can feel good and big at the same time.
