Looks like bitcoin is the only profitable territory this past year, earning ~$22.50/mo: 2100000sat/12mo -> 175000sat/mo * 0.7 -> 122500 - 100000 -> 22500sat/mo ~= $22.50/mo
With runner up, lightning, losing ~$60.41/mo: 678700sat/12mo -> 56558sat/mo * 0.7 -> 39590 - 100000 -> -60409sat/mo ~= -$60.41/mo
Is this right, or am I missing something? I guess SN needs to grow significantly for other territories to be profitable. Thoughts?
I might be ready to revive ~Photography in the new year, like maybe Februaryish.

Darth, you ever consider buying a territory?
reply
Not under the current format.
reply
Why? Too many assmilkers?
reply
ah no, with a good managed territory you can kick them out very easily: make them pay. I am not worried about those. Just that a "Darth's territory" it doesn't make too much sense. If / when the format will be changed, maybe I will think about it.
reply
What format would you like changed? Just curious.

knew you'd be all over this as I was typing it, kept it just for you ;)

The revenue is exactly what the founder earned so no need to multiply by 0.7.
There's nothing you're missing though. Only a handful have become barely profitable recently.
We'll be lowering territory costs soon which should help some.

If lifetime is raised to 4 million, will I still get to pay and additional 2 million if I paid for a year already with the plan to pay for lifetime within this first year? šŸ«°

I don't think we'll grandfather in potential once buys šŸ˜… .. too complicated

Are you joking? I'm confused. I am pretty sure you are joking. Please tell me it's a joke.

No I mostly meant that when prices change, they'll change for good. Keeping two sets of prices active (one for people on current plans, just in case, then another for everyone else) is complicated.
reply
So if you change it before September I will have to pay 3 mil for lifetime? That doesn't seem right. I have a plan in how I was going to make a lifetime purchase happen and I wouldn't have done it the same if I knew it might change.

I'm not sure how it's going to work yet. That's why I haven't posted about it. We'll do what's right, whatever that ends up being, but the time hasn't come yet so no worries.
reply
Okay. I trust you to do what's right. It's going to take a lot for me to come up with the 2 mil as it is. It would really feel shitty for that to change.

Rough idea how much they will be lowered to?
I would suggest recommend 80k monthly and 800k yearly.

I'm not sure. We can't handle too many of them is the biggest problem. Maybe 69k/mo & 690k/year & 6.9m/once.

I know you want to disincentivize the one time option but 100 months up front is pretty steep.

Definitely.

Lowering territory costs in what way? Lifetime territories will cost less than 3 million?

Lifetime will increase. monthly/yearly will decrease.

Lifetime will increase? Do you know by how much?

1m sats at least

So 4 million for lifetime territories?

Revenue isnā€™t subject to Sybil fee so you donā€™t multiply anything by .7
Also, youā€™re assuming that a territory founder is paying month to month. Some pay annually or smash buy for full 3 mil.
I paid for 2 territories with a full 3 million sats so my overhead never increases as time progresses.
SN absolutely needs to gain lots of users but currently thereā€™s only about 1100-1300 users per month so even if we pump that up to 11k-13k users per month thatā€™s a 10x multiplier. Now imagine even 1 million monthly active users which is a drop in the bucket for a social media platform.
Another thing to keep in mind is ā€œWhere do the sats come from?ā€ Thereā€™s not an infinite supply of sats that territory founders just get every day so we also have to think about attracting fresh sats to the platform. Jobs is a good starting point but I think maybe the boost feature needs to become more prominent for companies to consider buying ā€œadsā€.

I think it is a low time preference endeavor. Like mining Bitcoin. Takes a lot of faith in the platform. I look forward to having alter_native paid for life so it's just extra sats coming in regardless of whether I want to be in stacker or not.

To be honest, this is exactly why we want to increase lifetime cost.
Stackers who paid for a lifetime tend to disappear. This means they are essentially squatting on territory names and hoping for some passive income.

Interesting. And that makes sense. That's not going to be me. This is my second place. #786269 I have always intended to figure out the lifetime purchase, because I really want to be part of this. I know I said what I said but when I say, not be on stacker, I mean for days at a time. I am here most everyday because this is my community, not for making sats so much. This is the only place I have ever wanted to contribute online. It's just a perk to stack some sats. And alter_native doesn't even make sense as a territory unless it is a desert Dave territory.

Ah ok, this makes sense, sorry for my wrong assumption about "passive income".
reply
I want you all to know me here. I think I am one of the most active territory founders on here probably. I don't even care about stacking much. Just want to make a simple life for myself and be part of the change. I think I see stacker bigger than most everyone honestly. Thank you all for making this happen.

Territory economics have improved over the course of the year. It was the first year of territories. I don't think any of us expected them to be profitable the first year.
Yes, SN needs to grow in order for territories to obtain and maintain profitability.
