I don't think electric cars should be silent, it's a safety issue for pedestrians. I have myself been startled by an electric car seeming to appear from nowhere, where had it been a combustion-engine car I would have heard it coming. This is a particular issue in parking areas.

Exactly. Of you want an electric car, it should be economical and seem like an electric car.
