I find the idea of private cities fascinating. IMHO, this is the only way we can solve the many conflicts caused by the artificial colonial borders, as lately observed in Syria, for example.
I think they would be ideal as long as moving to another city is easy enough so there is competition.
That's the issue with countries, it's a lot of effort and tradeoffs for most people to move to a different one.
