I went to cancel to see if I could snag the $15 (even though I wasn't actually planning on canceling), but I was not presented with any offer. My balance has been $0 for over a year so maybe they have some conditions that need to be met and only then they try with the $15 offer to retain those wanting to cancel.
Anyway, ... I then changed my mind. F* PayPal. I'm now PayPal free!! I had that account for 22 years -- ever since receiving my free $10 (?) from Elon (when I signed up on X.com, which was the brand before PayPal merged with them).

I hate how Paypal always selects buy-now-pay-later as a default option with insane interest rates. It's a real darkpattern, how can that even be legal???
Anyway, I use Lightning if possible and Amex if Fiat is necessary now. No such bullshit in Bitcoin and at least Amex is open & honest when I pay off the whole month interest free or not. Fuck Paypal, these π‘π‘

Perfect opportunity to twist the knife and offer friends and family 15 bucks in BTC if they close their accounts

Venmo (PayPal) was like the digital cash equivalent for lots of street vendors and small businesses. The IRS' brilliant move to require venmo to divulge your income to them starting this year is going to dry up that space like a prune.

That rule will undoubtedly increase usage of cryptocurrencies. But I think the rule could be applied to cryptocurrencies that are controlled by a company (e.g. Ethereum). The IRS could force such companies to add KYC forms to their software. Moreover, the IRS could demand that custodial wallets add KYC forms to their software. So, broader application of that IRS rule could ruin a lot of altcoins and reduce the usage of custodial wallets.
Bullish.

Yeah, Strike and Cash app are in the same boat as Venmo. Vendors and small businesses that want to let their customers pay digitally and want to operate like cash, have to leave the surveillance dollar system behind. Would be nice to see that cause an uptake in self hosted and no-govcoin hosted wallets. Not sure if this is the catalyst but it's definitely a milestone.

I have wanted to cancel my PayPal account for so long. The only thing that keeps me there is that some of the organisations I donate to, only accept Paypal donations.
Let's see if I can get them to accept bitcoins instead. π

Lmao, this will maybe make more people cancel their accounts since they want to see if they get $15. If not, they may as well continue since they already started to cancel their account.

"because we want to keep you and I want you to stay with our PayPal Family"
Any family member of mine that would steal $2500 from me, would be estranged.

This sucks I recent found a hack using PayPal and fold card where I could pay my mortgage and credit card bills and get sats back. Other than that I hardly if ever used PayPal. Should I over come my sat greed and delete PayPal or just use it to pay bills and get Sats back

Notice how to pay those things you have to ID yourself. We are getting to a point in clown world where businesses care more about being able to positively ID you than to receive your money.

Lol if you can bag the 80k sats before you close your account why not? Might be a little less since paypal love to nail their users on fees
