I think it is a skill that must be honed. At first, it is challenging to separate what belongs to self and others. Protecting ones energy is a very important part of this when we are highly attuned to others. 

Definitely pros and cons to both being able to read minds would be good if you could turn it on and off when you want

I would prefer telepathy. While telekinesis would be cool in obvious ways, I feel like the advantages of telepathy are more intriguing to me, personally. Being able to be tapped into others and their minds has the potential to make a great change for ourselves and our realities.
