The NBA All Star Game is no more. After last year's humiliation, Adam Silver has decided to shake things up.

Format

Similar to the NHL, they are going to replace the All Star Game with a tournament. There will be five teams involved: three made up of the All Stars and two made up of the Rising Stars.
The 24 All Stars will be drafted into three teams by the TNT crew, while the winner of the Rising Stars challenge will advance to the final four.
There will then be a semifinals match, with the winners moving on to the championship round.
The games are pickup style games to 30 points.

Thoughts

I'm glad they're switching it up, but I don't know why the players would be expected to try any harder in this new format. The Rising Stars will be going all out, which might make whichever All Star team they face play a little harder.
Eight players is too many for pickup. They should have split the All Stars into four teams of six and just play to 21 like normal.
What do you all think about this new format?
I am glad you posted about this because I vaguely heard about the change but wasn't sure what exactly was going on. So this will be 3x3 or 5x5?
I don't mind it. I like that the Rising Stars have to play to get in. I am sure that play in game will be fun and it could add to the competitive level if the Rising Stars are going all out.
I don't mind it. At least they are trying something new. If it sucks, throw it out and try again.

I'm pretty sure it's still 5x5.
I'd love to see a three round 3x3 tournament with the 24 all stars.

3x3 would be better.

Each team will have a manager. It will be Shaq, Chuck, Kenny, and Candace Parker. Parker will be the manager of the winning rising stars team. The 3 guys will draft from the all star selections. The managers will be fighting for bragging rights, and I'm sure you've seen how competitive they can get from their races to the TV board.
I think the wildcard to making this work / competitive / entertaining is the "managers". You've seen how they roast last year's all star game, they might just be able to roast or convince the players in their face enough to motivate them into playing harder. I'm not sure if this will work out or not, I just know that the all star game really needed change for many years. Let them try it out and let's see the results.

This will add a fun element. I hope they have them mic'd up during the games.

Haha, those guys shit talking to each other are fun to watch.

Good point. They might play hard to avoid being roasted by Shaq or Chuck for the rest of the season.

Haha imagine being the target of Saqtin the Fool for the rest of the season, or even worse, the rest of your career like Dwight Howard. Sometimes, shame, or not wanting to be shamed, is a very good motivator.

I was imagining the entire Shaqtin' segment just being his team's performance.
