There was a movie version from the 80's. That doesn't necessarily mean you missed it, though.
Also, you missed about 30 books.
Depends if you count his son's books as part of the canon.
Not 100% sure on this, but all of the 'real' Dune books start with the word Dune, where as his son's books do not.

True, and I know Natalia knows about the books. I'm just giving her a hard time.
I want to make sure a random reader knows there's more than the screen adaptations, because the books are awesome.

There is a very good fan edit of David Lynch's Dune. Made in 1984. It takes out all the fluff.

You can watch it for free. They did update it, but you have to pay for it. I ended up watching it, it made the movie 100x better.
