By definition the whole political class is racist, the majority is zionist and there wasn't much opposition to 20 years of war in the middle east killing arabs. Not the first campaign in the middle east and before that it was south east Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos), strong political consensus when it comes to kill millions of foreigners
I do not think in the slightest that being a zionist equals being a racist. Though I heavily disagree with his policies I also have a hard time labeling Bernie Sanders as a racist. Granted he is one person but he is the first to come to mind when I think about what you said.
When talking about the Middle East until recently we have been pretty hands-off. Yeah, we got involved in the World Wars over there but after WW2 we really left Israel to fight for itself. When H.W. Bush went in there I am not sure anyone truly disagrees to this day with what we did and we even left Saddam in power on purpose. The 2000 Election wasn't run on wars or terrorism it was run on topics like juvenile prison reform and the climate. Then when we were attacked well we went scorched earth and I am not sure why that shocks people in the slightest.
Trump has made it clear he wants to move into a more isolationist place and maybe just maybe that will prevail. Granted he isn't going to play games with US citizens being kidnapped so those countries that are pulling those moves likely will be thinking twice since he isn't exactly predictable. Assad learned that with the help of 30-something Tomahawk missiles in 2017.
